Squaw-Alpine gondola would transform Tahoe resort into one of the biggest in North America

Construction is set to begin on a new gondola connecting Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley resorts this summer, creating North America’s third-largest ski resort as a result.
The ride between bases is expected to take skiers and riders about 16 minutes, replacing a 7-mile drive that is often filled with bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Each passenger cabin is expected to accommodate up to eight people and can move 1,400 visitors per hour.
The ski resorts, which merged in 2012 and already both operate under the Ikon Pass, would allow visitors access to more than 6,000 acres of terrain.
