View Comments That’s according to City Manager Tom Moeller, who said the city-owned train station at 7701 Railroad Ave. also is at the center of another possible economic-development win. Madeira is investigating whether the 141-year-old depot would make its downtown eligible to be a state-designated redevelopment district that would allow the city to use property taxes from new development for public improvements. “One of the requirements of creating a (Downtown Redevelopment District) is that the 10-acre area of the district must contain at least one ‘historic’ structure,” Moeller said in an email. “We have engaged (an expert) to evaluate the train station to determine whether it can qualify for the national historic trust designation, he explained.  We have already learned that the (city-owned) Muchmore and Hosbrook houses would not qualify.”
