Charter Bus Lot east of the Lionshead parking structure this week became a construction site to accommodate the future home of the Children’s Garden of Learning. That means parking for all oversize vehicles 20 feet or longer, including buses, RVs and trailers, will be directed to West Vail across from Safeway along the south side of the North Frontage Road.
The oversize vehicle parking area will be available for free throughout the summer. Overnight parking will be allowed east of the West Vail Mall bus stop. Self-serve permits will be available at the bus stop and must be filled out and placed face up and visible through the driver’s side front windshield. No camping will be allowed and vehicles will not be permitted to stay for more than three days.

The town of Vail is hosting a virtual open house at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 18, to introduce the construction schedule for the South Frontage Road roundabout project. . The meeting will be recorded and posted to the project webpage for anyone unable to join the session.
Construction of the South Frontage Road roundabout project will begin April 12, following the close of ski season, and is scheduled to be completed by early November. The project includes construction of a new two-lane roundabout just west of the Vail municipal building and Vail Health. The project also includes extending the existing four-lane roadway section with landscape medians and sidewalks from the municipal building west to the Lionshead parking structure.

Vail’s next big road project another roundabout will start this year. The project will affect traffic in one of the town’s most-traveled areas.
Vail Town Engineer Tom Kassmel recently told the Vail Town Council the project will go out to bid in the next month or so, with a contract awarded in March. Work is expected to begin in April, with a completion date set for Nov. 1 of this year.
Kassmel said the project will keep one lane of traffic in each direction open during construction.
Construction will be kept to the westbound lanes through the summer. Kassmel said that would allow easier access to the Vail International condos and Vail Health.
