New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has had difficulty advancing new abortion rights protections after legislative losses narrowed the Democratic majority in New Jersey's Legislature in the 2021 election. While many Democratic legislators say they do not oppose the procedure, some have expressed hesitancy about certain proposals from Murphy.

NJ elected officials line up to back the states planned wind farm

An organization comprising current and former elected officials dedicated to solving the climate crisis is speaking in favor of New Jersey’s planned giant wind farm 15 miles off the coast of Atlantic City. The groups is urging all Garden State residents to get behind the project. The New Jersey chapter of Elected Officials to Protect America, which announced 110 elected officials from across New Jersey have signed a letter of support for the responsible development of offshore wind, held a virtual news conference Tuesday to highlight the benefits of developing this clean energy source. Atlantic County Commissioner Caren Fitzpatrick, who’s a member of the group, said anyone who lives along the coast knows climate change is real and must be addressed.

Expanding Understanding

Ryn Grutkoski ’21 is passionate about searching for answers to unknown questions.  “What drove me to physics in the first place was finding out just how much we really didn’t know, how many questions there still were,” said the physics major from Moose Lake, Minnesota. “We have this really solid theory of general relativity and gravity, and also have quantum mechanics, and they’re not compatible fully with each other. How can we have these two things that seem to work so well in their respective areas, but we can’t quite force them together?” As a winner of a coveted National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) grant, Grutkoski will have plenty of time and resources to continue exploring these questions after graduating from Kenyon this year. The GRFP grants are awarded based on an applicant’s potential for significant achievements in future academic and professional careers, providing a three-year annual stipend of $34,000 and a
