BATON ROUGE - Though a number of COVID-19 related restrictions have eased across the state, Louisiana State University is keeping at least one restriction in place.
The university announced Thursday that its mask mandate will remain as is.
LSU s interim president, Tom Galligan, released the following statement Thursday. On Tuesday, the Governor announced that he is removing the mask mandate in many of its particulars, but we have decided, in an abundance of caution, to keep the mask mandate in place at this time. This means that masks will still be required on campus while indoors, and within 6 feet of others outdoors. As we have said from the beginning of the pandemic, safety will always be our guidepost. A mask mandate will remain in effect at LSU, university officials announced Thursday.
Masks will still be required on campus while indoors, with social distancing of six feet while outdoors. We feel that continuing the mask mandate at this time is the safest option for our employees and students while we continue to monitor the state’s progress regarding COVID-19,

It’s great news that cases of the virus, hospitalizations, and deaths are all down considerably, and we want to do our part to keep that trend moving in the right direction so we can have an in-person fall semester.

University records indicate that 3,988 out of the 5,164 faculty and staff on the Baton Rouge campus have gotten a COVID-19 vaccine.
Hundreds of LSU faculty members voted Tuesday for a resolution calling on the university to require students to receive COVID-19 vaccines before returning in the fall.
A preliminary vote count showed the resolution passing with 88% of the votes at a meeting that was held online and attended by professors and members of the public.
