Can you primarily think of yourself these days. I still think that im very much to see as a book critic. This book is just sort of an extension of that work. Did you know that you would always wanted to write a book is a book critic or is it something that you actually kind of steered clear. Carlos i did not have a sense that i wanted to necessarily be an author or write a book on reading other peoples books was putting for me. I worried a little bit that if i went in the process of writing about, i would end up far too sympathetic to the authors. And really for me for my day job. Well, i have just finished the splendid and the vile by erik larson, wonderful account of churchill and his family, really in the worst year of the war, the year right after he becomes prime minister, may may 101940, literally the day of the german invasion of the countries in france. And then basically what it was like to stood alone against nazi germany until june the 41 the russians are in the war and then obviously by december the 41 the United States is in the war. Its an extraordinary book, so its a wonderful read about a a guy that i consider literally the greatest person in the 20th century and the supreme ordeal of a long and brilliant career. Regardless of who controls Congress Next year, i think we can all agree running this house with integrity means listening to all members so that is what we will be doing today. We took a collaborative approach with the rules package for this congress and im proud to say the first bipartisan package in decades. It took time to acknowledge no party has the monopoly on good ideas. Of what weve created together, the consensus calendar to expedite consideration of ideas with bipartisan support, the Diversity Office to get the calls falls of Congress Looking like the real world, and the Modernization Committee to advance good ideas from both sides to get this place functioning better. It is a wonderful read about a guy that i consider the greatest person of the Twentieth Century and the supreme ordeal of a long and brilliant career. I have also been reading, i picked up a great historian by the name of jean edward smith, great biographer. I read his biography grand and eisenhower, by far the best eisenhower biography of a written. He died in 2019. Right now, just got into his book on fdr, the parkland prize which american historians choose as the best book of the year in 2007. It has been around a while. One of those books had been sitting on my bookshelf and i have not
