killed his former wife. an official confirms to msnbc that two more u.s. troops have been killed in the past two days in fierce fighting in afghanistan, that s in addition to the two u.s. marines killed yesterday. this on day five of that major offensive in the city of marjah. let s see how things are going. tom is in kabul with the very latest. obviously, tom, you never want to see any loss of life, especially our military personnel. but from everything i m reading, this offensive is going well. reporter: well, you re right, tamron. there are a total of five american servicemen killed now since the operation began saturday as well as one british soldier. today the governor hoisted the afghan flag in the market town of marjah, in the market area, in the center of the town to signify his forces along with the americans and british are now in control, have taken control from taliban defenders, who have been in that town for years.
the marines still advancing through the town and telling a different story, they say taliban resistance has not evaporated. they are still taking sniper fire. they are encountering lots of i.e.d.s roadside bombs and booby traps. a second marine rifle company went to the north over the past 24 hours from the north end of the town to meet up with marines helicoptered in on saturday morning. they seem to have moved all the way into the center of the town there. there was supposed to be a ceremony today where a meeting of tribal lawyers would meet in the town. it was suspended, no reason gichk. the next stage will be to move in civilian aid as quickly as possible into the town of marjah. thank you very much, tom. a man is suing the federal government for $15 million after surgeons left a clamp inside his body. richard keller had open-heart surgery back in august 2005 at the denver v.a. medical center.
