Willmar Area Community Foundation help farmers plan for a community legacy

The world is in the middle of the largest transfer of wealth in history as baby boomers reach retirement age. This also means today's older farmers are starting to think about and plan for their future and legacy once they pass. The Willmar Area Community Foundation has started to see an increase in the number of farmers putting legacy charity donations into place, using things such as grain, equipment and land to fund the donations.

Competency evaluation ordered for Granite Falls, Minnesota, apartment resident charged with arson

The 57-year-old woman charged with arson for allegedly setting fires in the six-story apartment building in Granite Falls where she resides will be evaluated for competency to proceed in the criminal case. Her most recent appearance was Monday in Yellow Medicine County District Court for a settlement conference. District Judge Keith Helgeson on Monday ordered a competency evaluation.

Former Upper Sioux Community police chief to serve two years' probation for reckless discharge of weapon

Christopher Allen Lee, 53, of Clarkfield, was sentenced to two years of supervised probation in Yellow Medicine County District Court for recklessly discharging his weapon in a domestic dispute April 15, while he was off duty. Lee pleaded guilty to the charge in August. Three other charges were dismissed for his plea.
