When the COVID-19 pandemic reared its ugly head a year ago, everyone wondered how they would handle it – working from home, staying away from favorite places, even avoiding friends and family.
Yvan Edwards used his pandemic time to do good.
The 17-year-old spent his pandemic year building bird houses – hundreds of them – that will become a birdhouse therapy wall at Stoney Glen, an assisted living home operated by the Village Learning Center for those with learning and developmental disabilities.
He lives in Kingwood with his parents, Arlene and Juan Martinez, and his 15-year-old sister, Alani.
Funderburk elected Humble mayor Published: 03 May 2021
It was a night for the incumbents in the city of Humble election on May 1. Norman Funderburk, who resigned his council seat to run, was elected mayor of the city of Humble.
Incumbent Charles “Andy” Curry was successful in retaining his Place 1 seat on the Humble City Council and Charles Cunningham retained his Place 2 seat on the Humble City Council.
With all 102 voting centers in Harris County reporting, the unofficial tally was:
Humble Mayor – Norman Funderburk, 509 votes (60.81 percent), Arliss Ann Bentley, 328 (39.19).
Humble City Council Place 1 – Charles “Andy” Curry, 507 (62.29); Eric Lacy, 307 (37.71).
Humble City Council Place 2 – Charles Cunningham, 605 (74.97); Linda Greenan, 202 (25.03).

The chaotic restaurant scene was right out of a Hallmark movie. A crazy busy night at Outback Steakhouse. The frustrated night manager is one staffperson short in the kitchen. The kid waiting tables is sent back to the kitchen to help.
Kid crushed it!
“Hey kid, you should do this for a living,” he was told.
A few years and a lot of kitchens later that same kid, Justin Turner, finds himself about to, in his words, “… curate one of the most delicious and wonderful culinary and hospitality ecosystems in Houston.”
