Bid to recover tourism will be multi-faceted - UTB

The recovery of tourism will be hinged on a combination of factors, among which will include the appointment of representatives in key source markets, according to Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
This, Mr Benon Ocen, the UTB deputy chief executive officer, said will be combined with other initiatives from the private sector through which other strategies will be drawn to lift tourism from the current disruptions occasioned by Covid-19.
“One of the strategies is to purchase more market direct representatives in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Gulf,” he said, noting support from the African Development Bank has already been secured to help in the recovery of one of Uganda’s largest foreign exchange earners.
Eskom invests in Kiira dam water controllers

Eskom has replaced the water flow controller at Kiira Power Station in a Shs5b investment.
The system, which is also known as the electronic governor upgrade, controls the flow of water through the hydraulic turbines that vary flow, speed and power output.
The system had last been replaced in 2007 and had reached their end of operational life.
Ms Thozama Gangi, the Eskom Uganda managing director, while speaking at the project handover said the old governors had been replaced with digital governors to improve unit efficiency and reliability. Uganda had been experiencing persistent power outages with some of the causes pointing to old age of both machinery and equipment.

Government, through Petroleum Authority of Uganda, will launch key tenders for the first development phase of the construction of oil-related facilities in December 2021.
The first phase will include building of a refinery, oil pipeline from Uganda to Tanzania and completion of the oil road network in the Albertan region.
