Lakeshore to consider municipal accommodation tax

  WINDSOR, ONT. The Town of Lakeshore will discuss a 4.4 per cent municipal accommodation tax Tuesday night. The tax would be added to all hotel, motel, inn and resort accommodations in the municipality. The Holiday Inn Express approached council suggesting the tax when it opened its new hotel in Lakeshore. The chain currently charges the tax at all their other locations, and want to keep charges the same across all of its hotels. According to a report set to go before council at Tuesday’s meeting, the tax could generate up to $131,000 per year. Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain tells AM800 half of that money would go to Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and the other half will finance tourism programs in Lakeshore.

West Beach in Lakeshore to reopen Saturday

  LAKESHORE, ONT. Residents in Lakeshore will be able to hit the beach and get outside in time for the long weekend. Mayor Tom Bain tells CTV News staff made the decision to reopen West Beach Friday, less than one week after the municipality erected a fence blocking the beach. At the time, officials said complaints of large gatherings at the beach were being made. Bain says physical distancing and limited numbers are strongly encouraged. Bain also notes that OPP will be present throughout the Victoria day long weekend. In addition to the beach, the municipality has opted to reopen some other outdoor amenities with restrictions in place.

Lakeshore Pilots Online Reporting Tool

Lakeshore has launched a new online reporting tool called ‘Report a Problem’ which provides those who live in the town with the opportunity to report problems such as a streetlight outage, missed garbage collection or potholes. The mobile friendly tool, connected to the municipality’s Service Request and Work Order system, will streamline collecting information about Lakeshore’s infrastructure. “We have heard residents say they want an easy way to report problems,” said Lakeshore Mayor, Tom Bain. “This online system provides the opportunity to let us know about an issue so we can create a work order and schedule the appropriate staff for the job. We all want our community to be safe and well cared for, so I encourage you to try our Report a Problem online reporting tool. ”
