The Madison school district was looking for a leader with community ties. Joe Gothard was previously a student, teacher, coach and administrator in the district.
Gothard has served as superintendent of St. Paul Public Schools since 2017, but he has strong ties to Madison. He grew up attending the Madison public schools.
