A zookeeper at Tohoku Safari Park in Japan was mauled to death by a lion while trying to lure it into its cage with food. Kenichi Kato, a 53-year-old employee of the park, was found unconscious inside the lion's cage. The zookeeper had failed to lock the door separating him from the lion, and it attacked him. Kato was a veteran staff member who worked with carnivores. The park apologized to Kato's family and stated that it would implement measures to prevent similar accidents. The park will remain closed until these prevention measures are put in place.
