SMITHFIELD A disabled Vietnam veteran with long roots in the community received a $25,000 settlement and a written apology from the town he holds dear after the superintendent unceremoniously barred him from school grounds a move that he says prevented him from casting a primary ballot and getting a COVID vaccine at the high school.
The Town of Smithfield, its school district and Supt. Judith Paolucci this week reached a $25,000 settlement with 72-year-old Alfred Costantino, a former Navy Seabee who has lived in town for more than 65 years.
In reaching the settlement, the parties drafted a joint statement signed by Costantino and Paolucci.
