This story was originally published in January 2017. Since then, Gov. Tom Wolf has pushed for action on legislation that would close some of these gun loopholes. And, on March 21, 2018, the state Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 501, which would prohibit all defendants with final protection-from-abuse orders against them from possessing guns. Also, anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence would have 48 hours, instead of six months, to get rid of their guns under state law. The legislation is now being considered in the state House.
