So Long Hanover said so long to his opposition early in the $14,400 trotting feature on a special Kentucky Derby Day Saturday afternoon (May 1) card at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
Pat Berry got the Donato Hanover gelding away quickly and put up fractions of :28.2, :58.2 and 1:27.3, with Bountiful Brittney, who won three of her previous four races, right behind him. However, the pocket-sitting mare could make no dent into So Long Hanover s advantage, as he scored by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.3 on debut for trainer Scott DiDomenico and owners Bottom Line Racing LLC and Triple D Stables Inc.
A pair of $12,600 co-featured events saw a division on each gait. On the trot, the sophomore Bar Hopping gelding Inaminute Hanover won his second straight local start, sweeping to the lead nearing the three-quarters and going on to post a lifetime best of 1:56.3 for the same connections of 2019 Hambletonian winner Forbidden Trade: driver Bob McClure, trainer Luc Blais and owner Determination.

Kyuquot, buried along the inside much of the way in the $40,000 Bobby Weiss Series Championship for three-year-old males Saturday afternoon at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, was angled to the far outside the first part of the stretch by driver Tyler Buter, then got up on the line for a 70-1 upset in 1:52.2, while heavy favourite One Eight Hundred was trapped behind a horse and got shuffled out of contention.
One Eight Hundred was sent right to the lead and took the field to the quarter in :26.1; when parked challenger Straight Talk argued hard for the lead, One Eight Hundred elected to sit the pocket as Straight Talk went on to command and passed the half in :54.3. Trevors Ace went first-over to press the leader and then seized the lead at the 1:23 three-quarters, with the chalk stuck behind the faltering pacesetter. In the stretch it looked like Trevors Ace was going to take the big money, but Buter had his Sportswriter gelding in top gear the last sixteenth and posted a nose dec
The Bar Hopping sophomore trotting ridgling Top Me Off became the only male to come through the Bobby Weiss Series preliminaries undefeated, as he equaled his mark of 1:54.2 with a hard-earned victory in his division of that group’s $17,500 third and final prelims during the Sunday (April 18) card at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.
Todd Schadel guided Top Me Off last year’s PA Fair champion and undefeated in four starts this year to the lead before the :27.3 first fraction, with Tart Tongue yielding then stalking him through middle fractions of :57 and 1:25. Tart Tongue took his shot in the Pocono Pike but came a half-length short, with Black Tie Bash closing well to get nosed out of second behind the winner, who is also trained by Todd and is co-owned by him, his wife Christine, and Rick and Regina Beinhauer.
