After months of scouring Netflix for the best thrillers, best action flicks, best romantic comedies, best horror movies, best family picks, and more, it s finally come time for us to narrow down our streaming suggestions to the best of the best. That s right it s superhero sagas vs. biopics vs. war dramas vs. musicals vs. comedies vs. so much more. This is the ultimate film list for when you have no idea what you want to watch outside of the general concept of an excellent movie.
As the 1990s approached, films began to offer more positive portrayals of LGBTQ people, often as the loyal best friend/confidante, with characters beginning to be more fleshed out, having lives rooted in their sexuality but not necessarily ruled only by it (i.e.
Fried Green Tomatoes, 1991). Straight society could identify with the queer search for happiness despite facing oppression and traditional values (i.e. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, 1994).
One remaining taboo was public displays of affection and intimacy, especially two men kissing. That hurdle would be overcome in the 2000s (and even lampooned in the 1998 indie
Why this might not seem so easy
There are few innocents in Patricia Highsmithâs writing. At best, her characters are inveterate liars; at worst, they kill without remorse. And still, whichever end of the spectrum they fall, her leads are magnetic: charismatic, suave, smooth-talking.  Though we know better, itâs all too easy to fall for their dangerous charm.Â
No one is better than Highsmith at eliciting sympathy for the devil, and there are few devils more sympathetic than her murderous conman Tom Ripley. The 5 books that follow his misadventures â known affectionately as the âRipliadâ â have been fertile ground for cinematic adaptation; since 1960 Ripley has been played by Alain Delon, Matt Damon, Dennis Hopper, John Malkovich and Barry Pepper, each of them bringing fascinatingly different takes to the iconic role.
Anna and the Apocalypse
There’s no shortage of Christmas horror movies to choose from, but there’s only one teen zombie pop musical out there (so far).
