‘Extreme hoarding’ cited in Portsmouth apartment fire [Portsmouth Herald, N.H.]
Jan. 6 PORTSMOUTH A first-alarm fire on Springbrook Circle Tuesday night rendered an apartment uninhabitable, and the city’s fire chief cited “extreme hoarding of combustible material” contributing to the fire’s spread and hampering firefighting efforts.
Fire Chief Todd Germain said his department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 114 Springbrook Circle at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday. Also responding to the scene were departments from Kittery and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and Rye Ambulance for mutual aid coverage.
Firefighters found smoke coming from a second-floor unit in a 16-unit multi-family building, Germain said. First arriving crews were “confronted with extreme hoarding conditions that delayed advancement a hose line to the second floor,” he said.
