HÀ NỘI Leaders of the parliaments of Laos, China and Japan have sent congratulatory letters to the newly-elected Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) and the National Election Council (NEC) Vương Đình Huệ.
In his letter, Chairman of the Lao NA Saysomphone Phomvihane expressed his belief that with his capability and rich experience, Huệ will lead the NA, the highest organ of State power of Việt Nam, to successfully perform its important legislative role and contribute to the cause of national defence and construction, enhancing Việt Nam’s position in regional and international forums.

A 23-year-old man from Northern Ireland was due to appear in court in England later today (UK time) charged in connection with the deaths of 39 Vietnamese migrants.
Caolan Gormley, 23, of Caledon, County Tyrone, will answer a charge of conspiracy to assist illegal immigration.
He is scheduled to appear at Southend Magistrate’s Court in Essex 11am Wednesday, UK time.
Essex Police made the announcement on Tuesday evening, but due to court proceedings getting underway, no further details were released.

According to the city Department of Industry and Trade, the city’s index of industrial production (IIP) grew by 6 per cent in the first two months of the year, despite a fall of 24.6 per cent in February as business establishments closed for the Lunar New Year. The recovery in industrial production, retail sales and import-export activities has been due to the Government’s effective control of the Covid-19 pandemic and programmes to revive the economy, said Bùi Tá Hoàng Vũ, the department’s director.

HCM CITY Ten companies are sounding out shareholders to temporarily switch their listing from the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange to the Hà Nội Stock Exchange since the former’s system is overloaded and smooth trading has become difficult.
They include VNDirect Securities JSC, Bank for Investment and Development of Việt Nam Securities JSC, PAN Group JSC and its seven subsidiaries, Sao Ta Foods JSC, Vietnam National Seed Group JSC, Southern Seed JSC, Aquatex Bến Tre JSC, Bibica JSC, Long An Food Processing Export JSC and Vietnam Fumigation JSC.
