Former Genesee Township police chief sues township claiming discrimination, forced resignation

Former Genesee Township police chief sues township claiming discrimination, forced resignation Updated Mar 12, 2021; Facebook Share GENESEE TWP, MI Former Genesee Township Police Chief John Mullaly was given an ultimatum to either resign or get fired after he was accused by township officials of sexual harassment in January, according to a recent lawsuit filed by Mullaly against the township in circuit court. Mullaly denies committing any sexual harassment in the lawsuit and claims age discrimination and a violation of the Whistleblower Protection Act were the actual reason for his “forced” resignation. Mullaly, 71, who served as Genesee Township Police chief since 2013, submitted his resignation letter to the Genesee Township Board of Trustees Jan. 12, with the board accepting it by a 4-3 vote. Township Clerk Wayne Bates along with trustees Kathy Sutton and Ashley Witte cast the dissenting votes.
