Hotel quarantine comes into force in the UK on Monday. Arrivals from some 33 ‘red-listed’ countries will initially be affected: they will have to book and pay for a package costing £1,750. More destinations are likely to be added to this list as new Covid-19 variants – or fresh cases of newer variants – emerge. There is no clear exit strategy and attempts to dodge this rule will come with harsh penalties, as outlined by Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Tuesday.
