you are live with us in the cnn newsroom. we are live in tel aviv. we continued our breaking news coverage, as israel welcomes home a second group of hostages, released earlier today. this was the extraordinary scene that you see right there at the crossing from gaza, into egypt. we witness those hostages finally making their way out of gaza, the other way from internationals the red cross. we also watched that those hostages finally arrived in tel aviv. it is there where they will be reunited with their families after more than seven weeks in captivity. we are still waiting on more hostages to arrive at that hospital. that should be moments from now. as part of the deal involving a four day pause in the fighting, which we are halfway through, more than three dozen palestinians were also released from israeli prisons, both yesterday and today. katelyn collins is here with me from tel aviv. she has been bringing us up-to- the-minute coverage of this ongoing process exchange.

allow al qaeda to reconstitute in afghanistan. does that concern you? it concerns me greatly, because i don t believe that this is a new taliban. they ve never broken their bonds with al qaeda.wenow that they rl deeply integrated. and so, i think we have a real security challenge ahead of us to both keep an eye on and to degrade those capabilities without forces on the ground. o donnell: how do you think the terrorism threat has evolved since september 11, 2001? the real danger is that al qaeda reconstitutes itself in the highly disciplined, extremely capable organization that was able to put together the attack of 9/11. we actually defeated that organization. if they can reconstitute that, then we ve got a different kind of terrorist threat than we have currently.
months, two years or more for al qaeda to reconstitute. the idea that now that could happen faster, and that s what mark milley told members of the u.s. congress, that is certainly troubling. that would undercut one of the primary reasons, if not the primary reason, that the u.s. went into afghanistan. the idea that the confidence in that could be shaken, not a pleasant thought, jim. not at all. and it raises the possibility that u.s. troops may have to go back in at some later date. o oren liebermann, thanks so much. the speed of afghanistan s collapse has been staggering. just three days ago, administration sources were telling cnn that kabul could potentially hold for another 30 to 90 days. in reality, the capital didn t even make it through the weekend. former defense secretary chuck hagel jouins me now. how alarmed are you by the situation you re seeing unfolding, that we re all seeing unfolding right now.
