on syria, then maybe we can do something on sanctions. put this to flynn s lawyer, he wouldn t respond. this has been a question that s been sitting out there and it raises a host of other questions. this was all happening, if it was happening, while moscow was attacking the american election. and so imagine this is going on and one of the representatives on one of the campaigns comes to you and says, hey, we want to do business with you after the election. would that dissuade you from carrying on this attack or encourage you to go further? it s also the case here that, remember, the lie was about the day the obama administration imposed punitive sanctions that he gets on the phone with kislyak and lies about it. one thing we ve seen, david, when they have the trump tower meeting, they want to talk sanctions. when they re putting together the possible moscow project, they re using a bank that s
mother jones, also author of russian roulette, the inside story of putin s war on america and the election of donald trump. david, what have you learned about the conversations flynn was having during the campaign? let me take one step back. back in february, 2017, when the whole flynn story collapsed that he had lied and that he was under investigation, there was a line in a washington post story saying that the reporters had talked to ambassador kislyak, the russian man in d.c., and that those conversations began before the election, not just during the transition period. and so that was always interesting to me because it was never flushed out. what were they talking about, when were they talking? well, mother jones, we have found two flynn associates who say that they have heard that he has said that during the election, before the election day, before the transition, that he was having conversations with kislyak, can t tell you when, can t tell you how many, that involved th
united nations. i liked him. he was a lawyer. because of that, i did it. in retrospect, i made a mistake. very interesting, rarity you heard the president say in retrospect, i made a mistake. meanwhile, the president s one-time advisor michael flynn is on his mind, garnering a great deal of attention because district judge sullivan ordered the mueller team to turn over all government documents and memoranda related to flynn s question, with a 3 p.m. deadline for the special counsel office to produce the documents. the president says flynn got a raw deal. president trump: it s a terrible system we have. it s going on right now with general flynn. the f.b.i. said he didn t lie. i saw your tweet. president trump: muellered he did lie. they took a man, a general, a respected person and a nice man and i don t know what he said about me, maybe they scared him
government first saw his cooperation. his early cooperation, reference to flynn, was particularly valuable because he was one of the few people with long-term at first and insights regarding events and issues under investigation by the special counsel office. reaction to the flynn sentencing memo tonight, the president s personal attorney rudy giuliani spoke to fox news and likened the documents to spinning on the sidewalk with many repercussions for many. he said there was nothing in the sentencing memo to suggest collusion and denounced the mueller team as overzealous media-inspired prosecutions. shannon: okay, so, so much of what we got tonight in a mystery because of those huge redacted sections, and that leads to both sides claiming victory tonight. something he has nothing at this as a scare tactic, something this proves he has really something terrible on the president or those close to him. speak of the heavily redacted portions recall the second part of the filing tonight
complicated than saying once you pardon him, he s free to testify. pardons have come up before. the president s former lawyer dangled pardons in front of flynn and manafort. is that under scrutiny by the special counsel? yes, they wanted to ask what they tried to do in regards to flynn and manafort. the other thing, this assumes manafort has something to offer, because manafort was looking at two serious cases in which a lot of the evidence is based on documents, that show he was convicted here. it was serious. they never made a deal. he wasn t around for that long, so what does he really? he was in the trump tower meeting. if you re mueller, you need to talk to everyone that was in the trump tower meeting before this investigation is over to feel like you did turnover every rock. maybe manafort doesn t have much. maybe there is no real way he can help mueller. the politics you talk about the equation. does the politics for manafort if he doesn t have anything left to offer, ga
