its current form. lucy cavanaugh will be joining us from london with just a bit with more on that. now we ll check on the weather now with meteorologist bill karins. it was nice coming in today, good morning to you. it s winter again in a lot of portions of the country, but it is bearable. it s how we should be this time of the year. it will be a quiet weekend for all your travel plans. it s a great outdoor weekend to enjoy the winter sports. the snowfall this morning is relatively light, but there s a coating on the ground from indianapolis to columbus. steady snow is overnight around columbus. and pittsburgh is also erie to buffalo. this is the beginning of the cold air coming over the great lakes. only a few spots off the area near watertown could pick up one to two feet. everywhere from pittsburgh, one to two inches. same for cleveland. just a generalized snowfall. going throughout the upcoming weekend, the heaviest snows will fall going into sunday. that s when a little bit
125 feet up, that s up there. interesting and different. alex, the weather is quiet here, but not everywhere in the world. we got pictures in from peru dealing with epic flooding. and this hotel was evacuated and for a good reason. oh, no! yeah. that s awful. they were expecting that. yeah. they ve had a lot of bad weather down there. and it looks like it will continue in that region, too. it s pretty impressive flooding. so we ll show you snow on and off near the great lakes into areas that typically deal with snow over the weekend. but the roads are slippery. interstate 70 from indianapolis to columbus. then from pittsburgh to harrisburg and state college, there s going to be a little coating of snow. if you re driving around the lake shore from cleveland to erie to buffalo, you ll be in lake-effect bans, not just today but all weekend long. the snow totals are not that crazy. from erie to you have buffalo, in general, three to six.
we also have winter weather we re dealing with through the great lakes. wasn ter weather advisories from waterloo to milwaukee, detroit, columbus. now we re watching snow from pittsburgh through areas of new york state and pennsylvania. so be careful out there. it s only a little coating of snow, but enough to cause slick conditions that give you problems on the roads. so here s the radar, we see the bright white there, that s a snow squall that went through the pittsburgh area. it s not supposed to make it that much further into pennsylvania. it s supposed to fall apart as the day goes on, but we ll track that. also freezing rain and drizzle back behind it in areas south of cleveland. all the areas from detroit northward, mostly all snow for you. detroit, 3 inches. green bay could be one of the higher totals. the backside remains cold enough for all snow. green bay could see 9 inches of snow. it could be an early dismissal for kids in green bay. that s all the bad news. now for the go
the battle is taking place between the bitterly cold air and the warm air moving in. there s a brief shot of snow. we ve got snow-covered roads and freezing rain from cincinnati to columbus. it s in cleveland, you got a little break and another band of snow coming in. pittsburgh got hit with a quick burst of snow, so the roads are definitely a little coated with ice and snow. detroit has an inch or two on the ground. and green bay, you re going to get nailed with a heavier snow event throughout the day. we have winter weather advisories for all the areas because of the ice and brief period of snow. northern wisconsin, you re going to be cold enough all day, that s why you are under a winter storm warning in green bay. and you could get nailed with the possibility here. look at the chart of the pink and the light pink, that s up to a foot of snow for you. a lot less everywhere, new york state, northern new england, but the light coating out there will cause trouble this morning. going t
williams and we ll talk with jim cavanov. pete, lead us off on what you are hearing of the sequence of event. they believe this was planned. they re trying to find out the motive if they can establish one. there are indication that is the suspect left some kind of message before the attack and they are searching this american s media and looking at previous people that he was in touch with and talking to friends of his. they know who it is, we believe we have a name, we are not reporting of it yet until we can be positive of it. we believe this person is a somali refugee who came to the united states in 2014 and is now a lawful resident who came to the united states fly into jfk airport and lived for a time in dallas and moved to columbus, we leave a student at osu, but we are not certain of that.
