Mighty Wanderers have completed TNM Super League first round with a 2-1 away win over Civil Service FC and have since secured a seeded slot in the inaugural FDH Cup.
Wanderers, also known as the Nomads needed to beat Civil Service to finish the first round of country’s top flight league in top eight.
Before the match, Wanderers were on position nine on the 16 member-log-table with 19 points from 14 games.
And goals from midfielders Vitumbiko Kumwenda and Isaac Kaliati enabled the Nomads to bag maximum points at Civil Stadium and climbed up to seventh position with 22 points from 15 games.
Kumwenda scored in the first half while Kaliati hammered the last nail on Civil’s coffin in the second. The hosts won a penalty, but striker Muhammad Sulumba hit the woodwork, before midfielder Innocent Tanganyika pulling one back.
TNM Super League debutants, Ekwendeni Hammers, were on fire on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium when they hammered visiting Ntopwa Football Club 3-1 after a string of consecutive losses since returning from the Covid-19 break.
With Brian Phiri on the left flank and Khumbo Nyirenda on the right, the home side were so offensive right from the first whistle causing problems for the visiting defence comprised of Mark Lameck, Glem Lemera, Lloyd Mugara and Kingsley Beni.

The Bankers now have a challenger up their sleeve as champions Nyasa Big Bullets at 25 points have dramatically risen from the middle tier to become new runners-up.
The Bullets have also played one less game at 12, with three left to wrap up the first round while Silver have played 13 with two left meaning the Bankers have to win at least one game and draw the other of the remaining two games to lead the first round.

Moyale Barracks Football Club on Saturday collected maximum three points in the TNM Super League against Ekwendeni Hammers in a Mzuzu derby that ended 3-2.
Moyale Barracks were winners over Ekwendeni Hammers in a five-goal thriller.
Striker Gastin Simkonda, Brown Magaga and Lloyd Njaliwa scored for the Moyale while Ekwendeni goals came from Patrick Banda and Chawanangwa Gumbo.
Playing at home, Mzuzu Stadium, in front of their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Thokozani Chazema, the soldiers, just like the visitors, lacked clear pattern of play from the word go as the pitch was muddy and slippery due to the rains that poured before kick-off.
