Representatives of Ile-Ife and Modakeke communities in Osun State, on Monday, allayed fears of a rumoured communal clash, saying there is peace in the two towns.
Our correspondent gathered that sporadic gunshots were heard around the Alaro Area of Modakeke in the early hours of Monday.
The gunshots heard in the area had caused panic on social media and in the towns that there could be a renewed war among people of Ife and Modakeke.
However, the spokesperson for Modakeke Progressive Union, Ven. Debo Babalola, explained that some suspected armed robbers that invaded the area were behind the shootings.

Police described reports of unrest in the two communities as fake and a blatant lie.

Videos circulating on social media showed residents of the two communities running for safety in the early hours of Sunday.
It was gathered that a woman, identified as Titilayo Gbadegesin, and her son Reuben, were killed around Alapata Area three weeks ago.
They were Modakeke residents.
Following their death, youth in the community alleged that the deceased were killed by people in Ile-Ife community.
The ugly incident then triggered unrest in the two communities, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

Following the gruesome murder of a Mother and child in a village in Ife-North Local Government of Osun state, Modakeke community have demanded thorough Investigation into the circumstances surrounding their death.
Vanguard had reported that Titilayo Gbadegesin and her son, Reuben Gbadegesin were murdered on their farmland at Alapata village by unknown persons on Tuesday leading to anxiety in Modakeke.
Speaking with newsmen, spokesperson, Modakeke Progressive Union, Venerable Debo Babalola insisted that police and the state government must investigate and unravel those behind the evil act.
