For the second year running, the merrymaking associated with Easter Monday was absent yesterday, as COVID-19 safety protocols, which place a ban on many activities, including those at the beaches, were strictly enforced.
The security agencies, mainly the police and the military, deployed men and equipment in town, at the beaches, pubs and other restricted areas to enforce the restrictions
From Good Friday, military helicopters monitored the beaches from Aflao to Axim, with emphasis on those in Accra and Tema.
The Titanic beach along the Tema-Sakumono road in the Tema West Municipality was deserted on Good Friday as part of the Easter lockdown to help stem a COVID-19 surge reports Benjamin Xornam Glover.
Scores of police personnel from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, Marine Police and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) were deployed to the coastline to enforce the measures instituted by the government to deter people from trooping to the beach.
When Graphic Online visited the Titanic Beach on Good Friday, the entire stretch from Community Three Railway Crossing to Sakumono was deserted as law enforcement officers were seen around.
GTA enforces ban on beach social gatherings
January 6, 2021
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) last Friday embarked on an enforcement exercise at some major beaches in Accra to ensure ban on social gatherings.
The exercise followed the President’s directive on social gathering and social distancing to help contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease in the country.
A joint team of officials from the Authority, the Ghana Police Service Swat unit and the media undertook the exercise.
They visited places such as the La Pleasure Beach and LabomaBeach Resort at Labadi, Titanic Beach at Sakumono and some other beaches at Kokrobite.
