Following the recommendation of Elgin Special Events Coordinator Kate O Leary, the Elgin City Council voted 4-3 against holding the popular annual Halloween event Nightmare on Chicago Street in 2022.
The Elgin city council voted unanimously to finalize an agreement to work with seven other communities and DuPage County in a coalition that will work to block the merger between the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern freight railroads. The group has already filed their objections with federal regulators. The communities say freight train traffic could triple if the merger goes through.
The Elgin City Council gave preliminary approval Wednesday to hire an engineering firm to design a pedestrian crossing to the north of Larkin High School in an area where students frequently dart through traffic to get to the nearby McDonald s, Dunkin Donuts and Beef Villa.
Elgin could receive about $600,000 from a national opioid settlement with three distributors and manufacturer Janssen, which is owned by Johnson & Johnson. The funds can be used locally for drug abatement and treatment caused by the opioid epidemic. Illinois will receive approximately $790 million.
Belle Tire will open a new 9,800-square-foot store in Elgin after unanimous approval Wednesday night by the city council.
