The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed Virudhunagar Collector to take appropriate action with respect to the decision to have a walkover bridge at Sengulam village in Aruppukottai in the district.
A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and S. Ananthi directed the Collector to take the decision on the recommendation by the Revenue Tahsildar, Aruppukottai, and the Block Development Officer, Tiruchuli.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by S. Karuppaiah of Madurai who sought a direction to authorities concerned to construct the walkover bridge in the village.

‘Kodikkaipuli’ farmers in Thappampatti are devastated After a lockdown-induced loss in 2020 summer, strong wind played havoc for Madras Thorn Fruit (Kodikkaipuli) farmer K. Chinnathambi, 61, of Thathampatti this summer.
A gale on Friday evening left many of his well-grown trees either uprooted or their branches broken. Mr. Chinnathambi has some 100 trees, some of which are more than 80 years old.
While the harvesting season is between January and May, last year when COVID-19 outbreak was reported and the State government announced a 45-day lockdown, he could not send his produce on time to the markets that were closed by afternoon.

Summer showers brought good amount of rainfall to Virudhunagar (58 mm), Kovilankulam (33.20) Aruppukottai (24) and Tiruchuli (22) in the last 24 hours till 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
However, the rain gauge stations along the Western Ghats like Srivilliputtur, Rajapalayam, Watrap and Pilavakkal did not receive any rainfall.
“The Meteorological Department has forecast that the district could receive rainfall for the next three days. It will be useful for the horticultural crops, vegetables and standing paddy crops,” said Joint Director (Agriculture), S. Uthandaraman.
The rain will help standing paddy crops on around 5,000 hectares in Rajapalayam, Watrap and Srivilliputtur blocks. Similarly, it will aid vegetable growing in Rajapalayam, Sivakasi, Kariyapatti, Mallankinaru, Watrap and Narikudi areas.
2,561 cases resolved in Lok Adalat

AAA A total of 2,561 cases pending in various courts in the district were resolved through alternative dispute redressal mechanism during the national Lok Adalat held on Saturday.
A total of 4,610 cases were taken for consideration for the Lok Adalat session and by resolving 2,561 cases a total of ₹8.18 crore were settled. Lok Adalat were held in by the District Legal Services Authority in Srivilliputtur court , and at Virudhunagar, Aruppukottai, Tiruchuli, Sivakasi, Sattur by the respective Taluk Legal Services Authority.
District Principal Judge and DLSA Chairperson, A. Muthusaratha, inaugurated the Lok Adalat here. She said that mutually resolving disputes through alternative disputes redressal mechanism will help both the parties.
