lots to cover. joining us now, nbc news correspondent, former fbi special agent in charge and jim cavanaugh and georgia state representative. great to have all three of you with us. what do we know about the victims and how did law enforcement catch and identify the suspect so quickly? well, ayman, it really is a painful day here in atlanta in the wake of this massive shooting spree. we know eight people were killed. six of the victims were of asian descent. one person was also injured. this took place in about an hour or so yesterday around the 5:00 hour. initially, the first shooting location was in the cherokee county area of georgia, about 45 minutes from where we are right now. officials have just released some of the victims names. they include delaina ashley yaun, 33 years old, paul andre michels, 54, xiaojie yan, 49 and daoyuo feng, 44. they range in age from 54 to 33. how were they able to capture the suspect so quickly? apparently his parents alerted officials
about strains spreading in the u.s. the overall progress on vaccinations is encouraging. the daily rate is going up. the nation now averaging a new record for daily vaccinations around 2 1/2 million doses per day. that is a relief to see. this all comes as the biden add administration is scrambling to find shelter for migrant children at the u.s.-mexico border. 422 of those children are in u.s. custody. they plan to move thousands of migrant teenagers to a conv convention center in dallas. we ll get to more on the push to vaccinate america. elizabeth cohen is us with. the daily vaccinations keep going up, that s great. you have the big gatherings without masks like we saw images of and serious hesitancy, mainly from republicans. that s right. it s interesting. in a way we can t visualize the hesitancy. so many people are getting vaccinated which is great. i ve been talking with public health officials that are concerned that once everybody that wants the vaccine gets it,

american democracy while finding that china decided against meddling in the u.s. election last year. let s go to our chief national security correspondent jim sciutto who s been watching all of this so closely. how extensive, first of all, was russia s election interference? reporter: i spoke this evening to a former senior u.s. intelligence official who was involved in the 2016 assessment. he said to me that russia is nothing if not consistent here. when you look at this assessment, the headline figures in this assess, it is almost verbatim from what we reported on 2016. we assess that the russian president vladimir putin ordered this, directed this, much as the intelligence community assessed in 2016. let s then go onto what russia did to interfere. it says they conducted influence operations aimed at denigrating president biden s candidacy. reminds you of what they did in 2016 in terms of denigrating hillary clinton. but also denigrating the democratic party, supporting
