Pensacola Councilwoman Sherri Myers aims to deannex northwest Pensacola

Pensacola City Councilwoman Sherri Myers wants the northwest part of Pensacola to exit the city. Myers, who represents District 2, told the News Journal on Friday that she is working to form a group she is calling Pensacola City Exit to deannex northwestern areas out of the city limits, arguing that residents are not getting the services they deserve for the amount of taxes they pay. I think it s unfair that we re paying taxes to the city of Pensacola given the fact that our neighborhood is more like the county, Myers said. Myers has long argued that her district gets underfunded and receives few city services compared to the amount of tax it generates. District 2 makes up the northwestern end of the city and includes much of the city s major retail areas including Cordova Mall.

Mayor Proposes $200K For Homeless

Credit Pixabay After more than two years of discussion, could the city of Pensacola be ready to put its money where its mouth is in regard to the homeless? Mayor Grover Robinson is asking the City Council to approve spending $200,00 to pay for homeless initiatives such as a day-use center, which is part of a similar initiative by the city of Tallahassee and Leon County. “I saw the Kearney Center, which is really something that we’ve been sort of advocating for and that day center side,” the mayor said. “I think that could be a possibility. In their phase-2 they have taken several old hotels and turned them into transitional housing.”
