Digboi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the government would decide if lockdown needs to be imposed on places like Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia after assessing the COVID situation in these locations over the next 4-5 days. Wait for 4-5 days, the Chief Minister told reporters in Digboi in Tinsukia district when asked about the imposition of lockdown in the three locations that have seen a spike in COVID positive cases.

The banned separatist group, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) or ULFA(I) has declared a unilateral ceasefire for three months following an appeal by new Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah on Saturday (15 May) made this declaration of a unilateral ceasefire for three months with immediate effect from his hideout on the Sino-Myanmar border.
The ULFA-I Commander-in-Chief in a statement made available to IANS by his spokesperson Rumel Asom said: With utmost sincerity, we would like to inform the indigenous people of Assam that in view of the Coronavirus-induced situation, the ULFA (I) has decided to suspend all its military operations for the next three months with effect from today.

ULFA-I Declares Unilateral Ceasefire in Assam: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) chief Paresh Baruah on Saturday declared a unilateral ceasefire for three months with immediate effect.
The ULFA-I Commander-in-Chief in a statement said, With utmost sincerity, we would like to inform the indigenous people of Assam that in view of the Coronavirus-induced situation, the ULFA (I) has decided to suspend its all military operations for the next three months with effect from today.
Further, the chief of the militant outfit also alleged that a section of officials of the Indian security forces and Assam police have orchestrated a conspiracy to malign the image of ULFA (I).
