Spring brings warmer weather, the return of orange construction cones and the familiar sight of lane closures and occasional gridlock on Utah roads.
The Utah Department of Transportation has 185 projects planned this year from widening bridges on Interstate 15 to repaving major highways. Motorists can expect the usual delays and detours as they commute to work and travel on vacation this season.
In eastern Salt Lake County, crews will rebuild sections of Interstate 80, including a new eastbound lane and bridges at 1300 East, 1700 East and 2000 East. UDOT also will repave eastbound Interstate 215 between 3300 South and 4500 South.
Drivers can expect lane restrictions on these sections at night and on weekends starting next month. UDOT will also close I-80 at least twice overnight to rebuild the bridges. Construction will last through 2022, and the projects are estimated to cost $146.5 million.
