CANTON â Following what village police described as âa lengthy investigation,â a Canton man was arrested this week in connection to an April 2020 sexual offense case involving a minor.
Timothy J. Harmer, 36, was charged Monday with third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sexual act and use of a child younger than 17 years old in a sexual performance, all felonies, and sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor.
He was remanded to St. Lawrence County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to reappear in Canton Town Court on May 5.
Harmer was released on bail Tuesday, according to the jail staff.
Canton police investigate the case with the St. Lawrence County Sheriffâs Office, the county Drug Task Force, the District Attorneyâs Office and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

CANTON The village police have arrested a 36-year-old Canton man for rape and other charges following an investigation of an April 2020 incident in the village involving juvenile.
On Monday, April 12, Timothy J. Harmer of 36 Spears St. was arrested Monday, April 12, police said.
Harmer was charged with:
• Use of a child less than 17 years of age in a sexual performance (C-Felony);
• Criminal sexual act 3rd degree (Actor 21 years old or more/ Victim less than 17 years) (E-Felony)
• Rape 3rd (Victim less than 17 years old, Perpetrator 21 years or more) (E-Felony)
• Sexual misconduct: Engage in oral/anal sexual contact (A-Misdemeanor)
