TAUNTON Everyone from city councilors to labor unions to environmental groups have weighed in on Aries Clean Technologies proposed gasification plant.
But do Tauntonians want a facility that deals with the region s sewage sludge and could bring in millions of dollars to the city, or are they worried about potential health and environmental impacts of the proposed plant at the former landfill on East Britannia Street?
It depends on who you ask.
Alison Rosa wants impartial information
Taunton resident Alison Rosa, 43, said she feels there are not enough studies and information on the type of facility Aries is proposing to be confident that it wouldn t have a negative environmental and public health impact.
TAUNTON As the election season for Taunton City Council gets going, Taunton Diversity Network gave Taunton s youth a chance to have their concerns addressed by current city councilors.
During a question and answer session over Zoom Councilors Barry Sanders, Phil Duarte and David Pottier fielded questions ranging from explaining why the City Council recently raised the number of retail marijuana licenses it can give out, to their thoughts on the controversial proposed Aries Clean Technologies gasification plant.
The first two questions, posed by Taunton teen Charlotte Post, at the event Wednesday night were about vaping a public health issue that was prominent before the pandemic and what the city is doing to combat it, as well as why the City Council voted to raise the number of retail marijuana licenses.
TAUNTON Timothy Silvia Jr. has announced a run for Taunton City Council this year.
The 30-year-old progressive candidate is a Taunton Democratic Party Ward 1 Committee member and member of the Taunton Progressive Party who has run for Taunton City Council before.
While Silvia said he is still ironing out a final platform, he said he is passionate about issues such as Taunton s economy, strengthening the small business sector and unions, infrastructure repair and modernization, energy efficiency and sustainability, social and racial justice and homelessness and public safety. I believe in working together with all sides to get things done for the city. No more pushing issues aside. It is time for someone to stand up and tackle the issues head on, he wrote in a statement. I believe in compromise, but I will never back down from what I believe in.
