Eddie Alvarez has laughed off claims from Iuri Lapicus that the youngster will “end his career” when they clash at ONE on TNT 1.
The two men will meet in a lightweight showdown on April 7 with the winner, more than likely, getting a title shot against Christian Lee – even though Lapicus’ last fight was a defeat at the hands of Lee back in October.
Alvarez has had mixed fortunes since arriving in ONE Championship from his loss against Timofey Nastyukhin to his dramatic comeback win over Eduard Folayang. Now, at 1-1 in the promotion, he knows a win over Lapicus would vault him to the top of the division.

In the night’s main event, the promotion’s lightweight champion, Shinya Aoki, put his belt on the line against his countryman, Koji Ando. The 32-year-old Aoki had never tasted defeat in the ONE cage and rode a seven-fight winning streak into the title affair. Twenty-five of his 37 career wins had come via submission. Ando, meanwhile, had scored back-to-back finishes over Zorobabel Moreira and Rafael Nunes to earn his shot at gold.
The co-main event also featured gold on the line as the promotion crowned its inaugural strawweight champion. Thailand’s Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke clashed with Filipino fighter Roy Doliguez to prove which fighter is the best 115-pound combatant under the ONE banner.
ONE Championship’s Eddie Alvarez has taken issue with Christian Lee saying he’s the best lightweight in the world.
Alvarez is set to return to the cage for the first time since August 2019 when he locks horns with Iuri Lapicus at ONE on TNT 1. A victory over Lapicus, who Lee beat back in October to retain the ONE Lightweight Championship, would take Alvarez to 2-1 with the promotion.
If that happens Alvarez would have a legitimate claim for a title shot against Lee – and he’d also be able to challenge Lee’s recent proclamation that he’s the best lightweight fighter in MMA today.
16-Year-Old Victoria Lee Wins MMA Debut At ONE: Fists Of Fury
Feb 26, 2021
Making her pro debut with sky high expectations thanks to her siblings, Victoria Lee made sure not to disappoint.
Lee, the younger sister of ONE Championship title holders Angela and Christian, made her pro debut opposite Sunisa Srisen in the only MMA bout at ONE: Fists of Fury. Srisen came in with a 4-1 professional record, her only loss belonging to Stamp Fairtex.
The 16-year-old Lee and Srisen traded shots early on before finding themselves on the mat. From there, ‘The Prodigy’ started to take over, fishing for a rear-naked choke and finishing the round with a barrage of strikes from top position. In the second round, Lee wasted no time taking her opponent down. She immediately took Srisen’s back and worked in another rear-naked choke, forcing a tap (H/T MMAFighting).
