By the end of this summer, that empty retail space previously occupied by Sears won’t be filled it will be gone.
Demolition began last month on that eastern wing of Timmins Square.
Sources familiar with that section of the building told The Daily Press there were structural issues or problems with the roof that prompted the decision to demolish that section of the mall.
The Daily Press contacted the mall’s property manager in hopes of, not only getting further details about the demolition, but finding out if that newly opened area will be used for some other retail purpose or just additional parking.

City hall stated in a release there are currently 166 active fires in various stages of control in the region as of Wednesday. The primary concern for the Pikangikum First Nation community right now is smoke. The 137 evacuees from Pikangikum will continue to remain in Timmins.

Also, Timmins continues to be supported by the Independent First Nation Alliance (IFNA).
“Their local liaison is helping address health, wellness, and recreation concerns. Canadian Rangers have now arrived on site to serve in a support capacity and identify and address any additional community needs,” the city stated in its release.

Businesses across the city, including those at Timmins Square, have been welcoming back consumers after Cochrane District entered the third phase of the provinceâs COVID-19 reopening strategy on Friday.
âWhile we had several essential service stores open, this step into Stage 3 has given the mall much more regular activity. We have received nothing but positive feedback since the reopening. Customers are excited to be able to have selection and access to unlimited merchandise.â
