Word this fire right over my Left Shoulder has tripled in size and is now at 30 acres. Cal fire believes this is one of several fires caused by last nights light nick. Because its a relatively clear day, you can see this fire visible up and down the peninsula. You cab see smoke thats billowing from the top of skaggs mountain. We drove up there a couple hours ago to get a better look. Take a look at your tv screen. This is a view of the same fire from upper bear gulch road. Theres about as i mentioned 30 acres bushing. Its a heavily forested area. Because its very remote, no homes are threatened. But access is extremely difficult. Cal fire tells us that the nearest road is about a mile, a mile and a half away, which means their firefighters are having to hike in all of that diftance. Theres about is00 m100 men and on the ground. Plus two tankers and a spotter plane. Cal fire estimates there were about 1,000 light nick strikes. That started seven fires. Barricades theres a problem. The crack today is much bigger. Were seeing more of the road slip down. Now the low is the creek. What were being told by public works the creek is cutting into the side of the hill. Its eroding the side of the hill. Thats contributing to the collapse, plus you have the collapse on top of the hill, the landslide on top of the hill. So everyone is worried this road is going to eventually just completely collapse. Thats why public works could not get in to repair the road and it is why they cannot get in to repair the broken water main. That means everyone who lives back here, they do not have running water.
