prisoners as they ve retaken the country. how much of a threat did these individuals who were in jail until relatively recently, how much does that pose? they pose a tremendous threat because, you know, these are people who were viewed as hardcore terrorists. some of them, for instance, one of the founding members of the pakistani taliban, the ttp, which was associated with a 2010 times square bombing attempt, that guy is now out of prison, released by the taliban, as well as concern about al qaeda leaders who are believed to have been hiding out in eastern iran. they are now back in the picture. the concerns are tremendous. we know that the intelligence agencies are now bringing resources that they had planned for elsewhere in asia. they re bringing them into the region to deal with all of this. all right, evan perez, thank you so much. appreciate it. it s been called a clown show and a fraudit. but today a report on the sham election audit in arizona is
times square bombing attempt. this, when you look at what boston marathon bombing showed that this is a real threat, this is something that can be done in these united states, and it is done by two women. women who, essentially had not really been on anybody s radar screen beforehand making it very hard for law enforcement and federal authorities to be able to track them. jon: and the fact that they are women, you know, very often we look for these jihadists to be young males but the fact that they are women and apparently targeting, considering targeting law enforcement funeral? that has got to be tough to stop? so many existing decisions that we make about terrorism. we have this view it is, as you said the male jihadist. we see so many women american women, british women, who are actually trying to get over to syria to get into the fighting, to be able to join isis. so what we really have to focus on is that the message, whether
any update on that? we were told investigators were questioning a 20-year-old student. investigators aren t giving us any information about that. a source tells abc news it appears the tips that led investigators to this 20-year-old and to this apartment didn t pan out. so at this point it appears he is not considered a person of interest. but investigators say they are not ruling anything out at this point. marci, the pressure cooker bombs, what are you hearing from intelligence and how what s the latest on these? well this is something that homeland security sent a warning out to state and federal officials in 2004. this is a type of device that is often used. it s taught in afghan terrorist camps. this is the same type of device that was used in the failed times square bombing attempt. marci, how has the community come together? we have seen the vigils. what else are you seeing out
reelect was the general motors, osama bin laden is dead and the secondary argument to the bin laden argument, al-qaeda is dead and see the president even after the benghazi attack say that they re on its heels. we ve been more effective than the bush administration was, we re stronger, we re tougher. so, to have this kind of attack take place just six weeks before the election is problematic for at that argument, but secondly, we have to remember they ve done this before. both after the christmas day bombing, airliner bombing attempt and after the times square bombing attempt. the administration came out and said things flat out not true, that the airliner was one thing, and we knew soon after those weren t true, but what happened, coming out and giving misleading information initially, they pushed the story off.
times square bombing attempt in 2010. and they re going to see if there s any similarity in any of that intelligence that they have. for example, how would they get into any city across the country? what are the possible targets? a lot of work involved. it s a daunting task but good thing they released the information. absolutely. when i drove into new york city this morning, they had extra security at the bridges and the tunnels but what if the truck bomb or the car bomb is already in new york city and it doesn t go through those points? you re absolutely right. this is why i believe there s been some criticism from some quarters as to why intelligence and law enforcement agencies have released this information. i ll tell you, steve, the greatest asset we now have are the people in this country. they need to make a telephone call, alert someone if their instinct is saying what i see, what i hear is not right. i got to make that call. thank you very much for joining us today and
