Waipā District Council finds $70k to restart time in Kihikihi

The clock has been stuck at 1.31pm for a couple of years. Residents unhappy about the time warp complained to their elected members and the matter appeared on the table at the Waipā District Council’s long term plan hearing on May 13. The council heard it was going to cost up to $70,000 to repair, upgrade and automate the clock, and to provide safe access to maintain it. The council’s property manager Bruce Nunns said some upgrades to the building might be needed along with checks to detect and remove asbestos. Te Awamutu Ward councillor Marcus Gower, who lives in Kihikihi, said the clock did not “fill you with inspiration” every time people looked up and it was 1.31pm.
