Inspired by the work of the great Chinese poet Qu Yuan and composer Tan Dun, Nine Songs evokes the legends of the 3rd century BC in contemporary contexts, fusing the specially composed score with emotion and images of nature behind the ancient spirits of sky, rivers and mountains, the souls of the dead and the unquenchable hopes of the living.
