Bedford Borough council approved a its 2021 spending plan with an 8% property tax increase during its final meeting of the year Tuesday evening. It also approved a change to its ordinances to permit property owners to operate bed and breakfast locations in all residential zones.
Council voted 4-3 to approve a $3.68 million budget â which includes a $1.636 million spending plan for the general fund â that increases the boroughâs millage from 3.9 to 4.2 mills.
Council members Patrick Neff, Sharon Turkovich and Kenny Fetterman all voted against the 8% tax increase and the overall budget. Neff and Turkovich earlier this month said they were against an increase due to financial hardships felt by many during the coronavirus pandemic, while Fetterman said he was in favor of smaller tax increases made annually.
