As I previously reported, the Supreme Court delivered a great decision on the right of states to be able to enforce rules as to election security. It was a big win for the Republicans and a crushing loss for the Democratic efforts.
The decision upheld the state’s ability to restrict ballot harvesting and to declare a vote not done in the proper voting precinct invalid. The court found the provisions were not racially discriminatory. The fact that Democrats would even argue that a restriction against voting in the wrong precinct is racist says a lot more about how racist they are than the law. That was a good decision not only for those particular types of provisions but it also bodes well for the future election security law decisions that might be coming down the pike.
Sen. Tim Scott Launches 2022 Reelection Campaign
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) officially announced his 2022 reelection bid on Monday in North Charleston, South Carolina, saying he will keep fighting to hold the Biden administration accountable.
“I have never been more optimistic about the future of America and the limitless potential of the next generation,” said Scott in a statement via email. “And with the Palmetto State’s blessing, I look forward to holding the current administration accountable and continuing the fight in Washington.”
The 55-year-old senator also talked about the achievements the Republicans made during the past four years, such as record-low unemployment rates, peace in the Middle East, historic and permanent funding for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), bringing millions of Americans out of poverty, and a “skyrocketing economy.”
Carrie Severino, woman who actually clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, took to Twitter last night to tell an amazing story about him that I think you’ll all appreciate:
When I applied to clerk for Justice Thomas I was just finishing my appellate clerkship on the DC Circuit with Judge Sentelle. I was thrilled to get an interview, but nervous about broaching the fact that I was three months pregnant. /1 #CTLive
Would he not want to hire someone who was getting ready to have a baby? After getting advice from people who knew him I decided to just tell him in my interview (I wasn’t showing yet). His response was so illustrative of his character. /2 #CTLive
