Researchers: Vaccine may not be as effective in transplant recipients A new study shows people who are immunocompromised because of things like transplants may not respond to the COVID-19 vaccine. and last updated 2021-05-05 09:24:43-04 KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A small study from Mayo Clinic shows solid organ transplant recipients may not respond to the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines the same way the broader community does. Of the six, only one tested positive for a low level of spike antibodies 44 days after receiving the vaccine, meaning the immune systems weren t producing the needed response to fight the virus. This study is eye-opening for the transplant community. Our study suggests that transplant patients don t have the same immune response as the general population. They got infected after getting vaccinated and lifting protective measures, thinking they were immune to the virus, the study read.

April 27, 2021 The City of Howell’s Community Development Director is departing. At Monday night’s Council virtual meeting, City Manager Paul DeBuff announced that Tim Schmitt is moving on and has put in his notice. Schmitt has been with the City for roughly 6-and-a-half years. The City website states the department facilitates and promotes high-quality growth and development. It’s responsible for coordinating long-range planning, current planning and zoning, code enforcement, building inspections, economic development, neighborhood development, and brownfield redevelopment. The department also provides support to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and the City Manager. It was stated during the meeting that it will likely take several months to try and find someone to fill Schmitt’s spot as it is a very specialized kind of role and the City is currently recruiting now. April 26, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / news@whmi.com After months of work, updates to the City of Howell’s sign ordinance are up for final approval. The council earlier introduced an ordinance to update sign standards throughout the City in zoning ordinance. Carlisle Wortman & Associates worked to completely overhaul the ordinance during the pandemic in order to bring it into compliance with recent Supreme Court cases. The Planning Commission has been reviewing the proposed changes for several months and after final revisions to the proposed language, has recommended approval to Council. Mayor Nick Proctor commented that the review was pretty much predicated on a Supreme Court case involving the town of Gilbert, Arizona. He commended the City’s Community Development Director Tim Schmitt and Carlisle Wortman, who did the majority of the update. WHMI 93 5 Local News : Grant Awarded For New Recycle Livingston Facility

April 5, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / news@whmi.com Despite some delays due to the pandemic, a grant-funded project for a new Recycle Livingston facility is back on track. At a recent virtual meeting, the Howell City Council voted to authorize the mayor to sign the 2020 Recycling and Organics Infrastructure Grant agreement between the City and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy for the Recycle Livingston facility at 170 Catrell Street. Toward the beginning of the pandemic last April, Council voted to partner with Recycle Livingston on the grant. The review process was said to be slowed by the pandemic but the State has since officially notified Recycle Livingston and the City that they have been awarded $282,504 for a new facility at the current location.
