Diplomatic efforts are underway to try to find a “climb down” for Yemen’s Houthis that would lead to an end to their attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea, the special US envoy to Yemen said in remarks published yesterday.
US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking held Iran and the Houthi militias in Yemen responsible for the consequences of “militarizing” the Red Sea region. In an exclusive interview to Asharq Al-Awsat, he stressed that the military actions taken by the United States and its allies aren’t aimed against Yemen and its people, but the military capabilities of the Houthis, whom he said are operating as a global terrorist organization.
The US envoy's remarks underscored Iran's complicity in exacerbating regional tensions, with Lenderking accusing Tehran of playing a pivotal role in destabilizing the Middle East.
