Hiker dies after falling ill on trail above Ventura Gretchen Wenner, Ventura County Star © ARLENE MARTINEZ/THE STAR Harmon Canyon A hiker died Saturday after apparently falling ill on a trail above Ventura. The incident was reported around 12:30 p.m. on or near Harmon Canyon Road, according to Ventura County Fire Department reports. The road rises from Foothill Road, just west of Kimball Road, into hilly terrain outside city limits. The man had been hiking with several other people when he reportedly fell ill and collapsed, said Ventura County Sheriff s Capt. Tim Lanquist. The man s fellow hikers phoned in the emergency and performed CPR until firefighters arrived, Lanquist said. The hiker was declared dead at the scene.
