The magnitude 8. 0 quake struck near the Solomon Islands, which lie near the active ring of fire. Five villages in the Tropical Island chain were impacted by tsunami waves. Dozens of homes in one of them were damaged. And theres reports that several people have been killed. The quake was so big, there were tsunami concerns as far away as japan.
