Once the weather warms every spring, kayaks and canoes can be seen along the 137-mile Schuylkill River. The water trail flows through Schuylkill, Berks, Montgomery, Chester and Philadelphia counties. Whether someone is experienced or new to paddling, there’s information available to help them navigate a fun journey on the river. Below are resources and events people can utilize to paddle the Schuylkill this season. JOIN THE SCHUYLKILL RIVER SOJOURN - Advertisement - The 2021 sojourn will be a five-day paddle along the river beginning from Jim Dietrick Park in Reading on July 31 and ending in Philadelphia on Aug. 4. Participants can select to do one day, multiple days, or all five days of the event.

Paddling Film Festival comes to Pottstown area on May 6

LOWER POTTSGROVE — The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area is bringing the Paddling Film Festival to the region for the second year in a row as an outdoor and physically-distant drive-in theater experience at The SunnyBrook Ballroom on Thursday, May 6, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. The outdoor event was originally scheduled for March but was postponed to May 6 because of rain. Schuylkill River Greenways invites area residents to celebrate the spring season and the outdoors with a fun and family-friendly viewing of adventurous paddling films. The international festival returns in 2021 with a whole new set of exciting stories that take place on rivers, lakes and oceans.
