Transcripts For CSPAN2 Heritage Foundation Forum Examines Impact Of Government Polices On The Poor 20170823

Good morning and welcome to the Heritage Foundation. I am the director of the center for free markets and regulatory reform. Here at the Heritage Foundation. I ask for you please, those in the audience to please make that last little check on your cell phone to make sure that they will not interrupt the proceedings today. And we will get started right now. The event today is really designed to celebrate the publication of a new heritage special report called Big Government policies that hurt the poor. And how to address them. United states is a very compassionate country and you have an awful lot of government activities that affect poor members of the population and in one way or another. We have welfare programs, welfare spending at one time or another that adds up to well over 1 trillion. That can be in things like healthcare, directing supports of one kind or another. We are not really here to talk about those policies today. We want to talk about another set of Government Policies

We run down the year-end sprint

Why Government Price Controls Won t Fix the Cost of Insulin

The price of insulin and other lifesaving prescription drugs are increasingly more expensive. In response, the Democrats’ so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” imposed a $35 monthly out-of-pocket price ceiling on insulin for Medicare recipients. But does this actually address the reason why these drugs are so expensive, or are they missing the mark? On this episode, we expose the root cause of the high cost of insulin (and other life-saving prescription drugs), and what must happen to ensure these prices are affordable and treatment options are abundant.

Did Biden Get Mexico To Pay for Border Security?

After President Biden's meeting with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the White House has been touting the agreement for Mexico to pay $1.5 billion over two years for U.S. border security efforts. But how will this money be spent and is it enough? What will the U.S. have to do in return? Given that we are on track for a record-breaking year in terms of illegal border crossings, what is at stake in terms of safety and security and what we must do to finally fix the border?

The ESG Pushback

Under the umbrella of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activism, corporations have become unimaginably woke. They are weaponizing capital, and it is promoting nearly every left-wing policy issue they care about. So what does it mean to say the Left is weaponizing capital, what are the implications? On this episode Heritage Visiting Fellow (and former CEO of CKE Restaurants) Andy Puzder joins us to examine the consequences of ESG activism, what it’s doing to American culture/401k’s, and the awesome pushback that's happening!
