A SHANKLIN pub has been forced to shut down after it was confirmed members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19. The Village Inn, at the bottom of the town s Old Village, has been taking several precautions to avoid the spread of the virus. These included taking customers details and not permitting entry to anyone outside Tiers One and Two. A spokesperson for the Village Inn said: As if this year couldn’t get any worse, some staff members have been positively tested for Covid. It is with sadness we will be closing until December 30 to ensure the safety of all our customers and staff. Have a merry Christmas and see you all soon.

FOLLOWING the most recent changes to the Government’s Covid-19 travel guidelines and anticipating reduced demand for services, Red Funnel is withdrawing select vehicle ferry sailings between December 27 and January 4. In support of social distancing, all sailings will continue to run at reduced capacity, to a limit of 350 passengers. The company will be closing its food service outlet at Southampton’s Terminal 1 from Christmas Day, although its Signature Lounge will remain open until at least December 24, with the service yet to be confirmed beyond this date.
